|Hans Skalagard is a contemporary maritime artist living and owning a gallery in gallery in Carmel, California. He was born on the isle of Skuo in the Faroe Islands in 1924. He began painting at age eight and won his first award at age ten. At age thirteen he became an apprentice seaman on a four-masted barque. Skalagard studied art at Denmark's Royal Academy and with marine artist, Anton Otto Fisher. He imigrated to the United States in 1943.
