| Petersen was a sea captain but started painting as early as 1795 although most of his works are dating after 1807. He met C.W. Eckersberg in 1831 and received some instructions on marine art, advising Eckersberg in return on rigging and other technical details of sailing vessels. A typical work by Petersen depicts the vessel in a central profile view under full sail at a calm sea. Information about the artist and his oeuvre can also be found in our book "Ship Portrait Artists". |
