Julian O. Davidson (1853-1894)

Julian O. Davidson was born in Nyack, New York in 1853 and died in Cumberland, Maryland in 1893. He is considered a Marine Painter, writer and illustrator from the American school. He received his formal art education with Mauritz Frederik Hendrick de Haas (1823-1895). Upon finishing his studies with de Haas, Davidson opened his studio at the Nyack Boat Club. At the Boat Club, he was a considered champion sculler. During the 1880’s, Davidson began writing and illustrating for Harper’s magazine. He also began exhibiting at the National Academy of Design in 1874 and continued to exhibit until 1893/4.
