William Howard Yorke (1847-1921)

The Liverpool port painter William Howard Yorke was the son and student of William G. Yorke, who was also a noted ship portraitist. William Howard Yorke was born in St. Johnís, New Brunswick and immigrated to Liverpool with his father at about age 9. The elder Yorke soon established himself as a marine painter and his son became his apprentice. When William senior immigrated to America in 1871, William junior remained in Liverpool, where he took over his fatherís business and proceeded to establish his own reputation as one of the more successful artists of the Liverpool School.
