Return to Collection  :: Return to Steam Ships

Samuel Walters was born in London, the son of maritime artist Miles Walters (1774-1849). After the family moved to Liverpool where Miles Walters opened a studio, he initially was a collaborator on many paintings with his father. Striking out on his own, first in London and then returning to Liverpool around 1847, he would go on to dominate the Liverpool scene and consolidate his position as the portís most significant marine painter during itís heyday of maritime prominence. He was one of the few Liverpool artists to achieve significant recognition within his own lifetime.
