Nathaniel Currier (1813-1888)
Return to Collection  :: Return to Three-masted Vessels

Nathaniel Currier and James Merrit Ives were early American lithographers and print publishers who were instrumental in the creation and development of hand colored lithography. Their prints depicting American scenes of everyday life and historic events became immensely popular with the public. Their firm produced over a million prints using an artistic medium that was the first to be widely affordable to the masses. Many Currier and Ives prints featured works from many of the periodís most accomplished maritime artists, precisely copied by the firmís lithographers.
