Francis Hustwick¬†(attributed) (1796-1864 c.)
Return to Collection  :: Return to Three-masted Vessels

Ship portraitist Francis Hustwick has only recently been recognized as a significant contributor to the Liverpool School of marine artists. Born in Hull, Hustwick settled and began painting in Liverpool around 1846. Because he signed only a small minority of his works, many have been erroneously attributed to other Liverpool Artists, including Samuel Walters and Isaac Heard. Through the identification and comparison of specific individual details common in nearly every one of his paintings, a body of over fifty works has been positively identified and attributed to this formerly obscure Liverpool port painter.
